Progressives' Prayer Group: “Praying Liberally”

The inaugural meeting of the Wilmington, DE Chapter of Praying Liberally was organized by Frank Bell and held on August 21 at the Bellefont Café, 804 Brandywine Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19809. It is a social gathering for politically liberal and progressive people of faith and is the first chapter of its kind in the U.S. Praying Liberally is the latest project of Living Liberally, a national organization founded in 2003 that is dedicated to creating communities around progressive politics.

According to Bell, “The point of Praying Liberally is to give persons of a liberal persuasion a chance to look at issues of politics, policy and social justice from a perspective informed by faith, and to allow those who may not have a religious perspective to join them without opprobrium. Praying Liberally members aim to make religious values an inclusive, positive force in American politics.”
