ULSTER PROJECT RUN/WALK

Ulster Project Delaware 2008 invites you to participate in the Sixth Annual Catherine Rooney’s Irish Pub 5k Run/Walk for Ulster Project Delaware on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in Trolley Square, Wilmington.  Race day registration opens at 5:30 p.m. and the race begins at 6:45 p.m. in Conaty Park on Gilpin Avenue between DuPont and Rowan Streets.  The course is a wheel measured one that starts behind Trolley Square, continues around Brandywine Park, and finishes back near Trolley Square.  It is RRCA certified and sanctioned by Delaware Sports Club.

The amenities for participants include a T-shirt and a post-race party at Catherine Rooney’s Irish Pub.  Awards will be given to overall male and female runners, plus top male and female in ten-year age groups, 13 & under through 70+.  There will also be awards for the top 3 male and female walkers.  The entry fee is $16 for pre-registration through July 7th; $20 on the day of the event.  To register online, go to www.races2run.com  or you can call the Ulster Project Office at 302-656-2721 for registration forms.

The 5k Run/Walk will benefit the reconciliation work of Ulster Project Delaware.  Since its inception, UPD has brought 637 Catholic and Protestant teens and 120 adult leaders from the towns of Banbridge, Coleraine, and Portadown in Northern Ireland to the Wilmington area for a month-long series of activities that promote enduring friendships and mutual understanding.  While here, the teens and adult leaders live with host families with teens of a similar age, between 14 and 16 years old.  This year, 18 teens and 4 adult leaders will arrive from Portadown on June 27 and will stay with host families in our area until July 25.

For more information about how you can participate in this major fundraising event for UPD or volunteer to help with it, please contact Kevin and Julia O’Hanlon at 302-290-0663.
