Pacem in Terris, along with the Franciscan Center, has helped this group sustain itself ever since Sally Milbury-Steen, Executive Director of Delaware's Pacem in Terris, convened its first organizational meeting in April, 1992. It became incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the spring of 1994 and was designated a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS in early 1995 after its Articles of Incorporation were revised. Pacem in Terris continues to support this group through providing clerical assistance and maintaining the mailing list which now has over 600 people.
An important subgroup of Delaware Citizens is "Because Love Allows Compassion" (BLAC) which is directed by Anne Coleman and Barbara Lewis. Anne whose daughter was murdered and Barbara whose son is on death row are moving speakers and have appeared on a number of national talk shows. BLAC reaches out to death row inmates and their families as well.
DE Citizens Opposed to the Death Penalty Annual Meeting
Delaware Citizens Opposed to the Death Penalty will hold its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 11, from 7 – 9 pm in the new Annex at the Camden Friends Meeting House, 122 E. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Camden, DE 19934.
Following a brief business meeting, Craig Karsnitz, one of the lawyers who represented Linda Charbonneau at the capital murder trial in downstate Delaware, will give a presentation on fairness and restorative justice. Mr. Karsnitz was successful in getting Mrs. Charbonneau’s sentence overturned, so he has many insights to share about the way the death penalty is applied in the State of Delaware. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.
Located just south of Dover, Camden Friends Meeting House was recently renovated to use solar panels, bio-thermal energy, and other green features. The changes reflect the Friends commitment to being good stewards of the earth. Join us in this earth friendly environment.
This program is free and open to the public. Delaware Citizens Opposed to the Death Penalty is a restorative justice project of Pacem in Terris. For more information go to www.enddeathpenaltyde.org or call 302-656-2721.
